The Challenge

After becoming a mother for the second time, getting a high school diploma seemed out of reach. I was eager to get back to work but my boyfriend urged that I go back to school if I was ever going to make more than minimum wage. I knew this was the best decision for my family and me, but it would not be that simple. We had one car, one income, and two children to figure out care for while I would be in school. I also had to travel 50 miles a day to get to and from school.

The Solution

Novi Career Prep and Adult Education offered me a flexible schedule, passionate instructors and incredible opportunities which have allowed me to gain knowledge, grow stronger, and build my resume. I didn’t just earn my high school diploma, I was equipped with the skills to succeed after graduation. I was also recognized as a NAEHS (National Adult Education Honor Society) member. While attending school and after graduation, I have taken opportunities to advocate for adult education with organizations such as MACAE (Michigan Association of Community and Adult Education).

The Outcome

I am now in my third semester at Washtenaw Community College where I am confidently continuing my education and paving the way to a brighter future for my family. I would not be where I am today without the dedication of my educators who have gone above and beyond to help me to see my true potential.
